Ocean Edge Resort - Cape Cod

The Great Outdoors
Pick up the twenty-six mile Cape Cod Bike and Rail Trail at Ocean Edge and continue to the Cape Cod National Seashore all the way to Provincetown. The "bike trail" as it is known, is for bikers, walkers, and joggers. The Rail Trail is dotted with plenty of opportunities to visit other beaches and ponds, or to grab lunch or an ice cream cone along the way. Bike rentals and helmets are available at Ocean Edge for all ages, as are baby buggies that attach to adult size bikes, and tandem bikes for kids too young to keep up. The Bike Trail is safe for strollers and motor vehicles are not allowed.

Just a three minute bike ride from Ocean Edge is Nickerson State Park. A haven for campers, Nickerson offers paddle boat rentals and a chance to swim in some of the Cape's most scenic ponds.

Shopping
The Brewster General Store is as authentic and down to earth as its photos suggest. The 155- year old store offers a unique assortment of great coffee, pastries, morning papers, penny candy, wacky kitchen gadgets, arguably the Cape's best fudge, and all the necessities of a beach vacation including sunscreen, flip flops and cool t-shirts and sweatshirts.

The Strawberry Patch features a unique collection of "hand-tiques", a gift shop with a toy section. Behind the shop is a fantastic garden and arborvitae maze for younger children, and an amazing working train set that mimics old Brewster, featuring our very own Ocean Edge Nickerson Family Mansion.

Open year-round, the Brewster Bookstore, is packed with books, games, greeting cards and gifts. Voted Boston Magazine's "Best of Boston Bookstore on Cape Cod", the Brewster Bookstore features regular book signings and events. The recently expanded children's section has the best selection of kids books and fun stuff, on every topic.

Even the most sullen teenage girl will crack a smile, and you will too at RearView Mirror, Brewster's coolest boutique with a wide variety of clothes, jewelry and gifts.

Sports
While visiting Ocean Edge, hop on the bike path a mile down the road to see a Brewster Whitecaps baseball game. As part of the Cape Cod Baseball League, the Whitecaps have recruited some of the nation's best college level players. Check-out the Whitecaps summer morning baseball camp for kids, from 9-12 daily and taught by these rising stars.

Art & Culture
Underground Art Gallery
Karen North Wells and her husband Malcolm Wells own this one-of-a-kind undergrounds gallery located on Satucket Road, ½ mile from the historic Brewster Grist Mill and herring run. The gallery is an earth covered structure built in 1988 to demonstrate environmentally-sound construction practices, as well as house Karen and Mac's production studios and exhibit spaces. Karen paints allowing visitors to watch her work while they shop.

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is housed in a 17,000 square foot building surrounded by 300 acres of town owned conservation land. There are two floors of exhibits about the Cape flora and fauna, including exhibits on whales, indigenous birds, and coastal change. Don't miss the library and Museum Shop, as well as guided nature walks and special camp programs for kids in the summer.

Chatham Center
Spend a day or evening shopping in nearby Chatham Center, just a 10-minute drive from Ocean Edge. On Main Street, the best way to get around is on foot. Great shopping includes confections, artwork by local artists, nautical antiques, jewelry, clothing for men and women, kids' stuff, sports memorabilia, music and more.

Provincetown
Provincetown is a 40-minute drive from Ocean Edge, a day trip well spent to the beautiful tip of Cape Cod. The quaint town is known for its galleries, restaurants, and arts community. It's alive with the energy of diversity and enterprise -- extroverted and embracing. Provincetown celebrates the strength of its commitment to the many cultures that have made a home here - British, German, Italian, Irish, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Jamaican, Nepalese and young student-workers from Eastern Europe.

Take a stroll over the Mansion Front Lawn to Stringe Gallery just across from the Mansion and Carriage house on 6A. At Stringe you’ll find original watercolors and oils of Cape artist Tom Stringe, and fine country antique furniture and accessories from Tymeless Antiques. Drop in and visit with Tom and Jim.
